Notes - Marinus (Merinus) A. Van Vleckeren, b. Dec. 16, 1740 in NY, NY; bpt. July 22, 1741 RDC, New York, Rec., d. in Dutchess Co., NY. He was twice m.: (1) Oct. 19, 1766, to Magdalena (at times called Helena or Lena) van de Water, who was b. in Bedford, Long Island, NY, d. before 1774; m. (2) on Oct. 15, 1774 (lic) to Maria van de Water (Hopewell Ch. Rec.), she b. Dutchess Co., NY. Both Magdalena and Maria were daughters of Benjamin and Jannetje (Simpson) van de Water. On June 20, 1787, when he and his 2nd wife mortgaged some land which formerly belonged to his father, he is described as of Rombout Precinct, yeoman (Dutchess Co. Mtgs., Lib. 5, p. 65) and his wife Maria is listed as "Myritche". His name appears on the Fishkill tax list from 1767-1775, 1777-1779 (listed as Marinus A. Van Vleeker). His surname on his marriage record (RDC Hopewell) was listed as Van Vlekkeren. He may be the Marinus Van Vlack of Fishkill who is listed in the 1790 Census as having in his family 2 males over 16 and 3 females. He also may be the Marinus Van Vleckeren who was an enlisted man in The Dutchess County Militia - Second Regiment (Roberts: New York in the Revolution as Colony and State, 2nd ed., Albany, NY, 1898, pg. 138). 1787 mortgage information of father Abraham's land lists his first name as being Merinus.
