    • Jakob Benson Van Vlack, b. Feb. 26, 1849 at Wheeling, IL. Moved with widowed mother at age 2 to Wirt County, W. VA, d. March 10, 1923, m. Catherine Jane Anderson on July 1, 1879, Wood Co., W. VA. She was born in Cheviot Hills, Scotland, d. March 26, 1928. All of their children were born at Volcano, W. VA. Jakob's first venture as a youth was timbering a forest plot he and brother Seth purchased to cut railroad ties for the sawmills. He was later a blacksmith, farmer, and the overseer of 20 workers at the large Stiles Estate and Farm (Stiles was a wealthy oil baron) near the town of Volcano for many years, until Stiles died. He then moved, with some of his family, to Chester, W. VA at 119 Penn Ave. and worked at a steel mill there. They were Presbyterian and are buried at the Locust Hill Cemetery in Chester, W.VA.
