    • This from Jane Van Vleck: Egbert B. Van Vlack, b. circa 1812 in NY (age 38 in 1850 Illinois census); d. in Portland, OR; m. probably in Chicago, Cook County, IL (1) Marina (Marinda) Luce, she b. March 3, 1823 in NY, dau. of Andrew and Sarah (Child) Luce; m. (2) Bertha E. _____ in IL. Egbert is listed in the commerical advertiser section of the Chicago, IL Business Directory (S.C. Griggs & Company, 1859 pg. 47)as Egbert Von Vlack, 12 N. Wells. He left Des Plaines, IL, and went to Portland, OR, with his son Clark's child. The child predeceased him. Egbert died in Oregon. Cemetery records state that he was buried on November 3, 1915 in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portland, OR. Conflicting information about his death is that his widow (Bertha) is listed in the 1902 Portland directory as "widow to Egbert." Egbert may have had two more children by Bertha: Clara and William C. who were also listed in the Portland Directory in 1902. Children of Egbert and Marina:

      Egbert was elected town clerk at the founding of Wheeling, Ill. per "History of Cook County, Illinois : being a general survey of Cook County history, including a condensed history of Chicago and special account of districts outside the city limits : from the earliest settlement to the present time (c1909)", P255. Repository: Internet Archive.

      Following from "Annual Report for the Year
      Ending October 31, 1914" of the Chicago Historical Society.

      "A flute, formerly owned by Egbert B. Van Vlack who
      brought it to Chicago when he came to take up residence
      here in 1832, is bequeathed to the Society under the will of his daughter, the late Clara V. Garnet, of Gresham,
      Oregon. The dft is transmitted by Miss M. E. Buckley,
      Executrix, Gresham, Oregon."

      The flute had been in the Van Vlack family for more than a century."
