Notes - Edmund Van Vlack, b. Sept. 3, 1819 at Fishkill, NY; bpt. March 24, 1820 (RDC Hopewell); d. Feb. 16, 1894 at Cambria, MI., m. Sarah Bryan on Aug. 29, 1842 in the town of Cambria, Hillsdale Co., MI, she b. March 26, 1824, Cheshire, MA., d. May 25, 1909. Sarah was the dau. of Richard Bryan and Sarah (Sawyer) Stevens. Edmund was a farmer. Information in quotes extracted from REMINISCENCES by Sarah (Bryan) Van Vlack, pgs 478-479, originally written in the years 1902 and 1904. (Order of the information has been changed.) "When Edmund was eight or nine years old he came with his brother-in-law Ira Mead, to the town of Stafford, Genisee (Genesee) Co., NY. When he was about 18 (circa 1837), he came to Michigan with father, mother, brother and sisters, and Ira Mead and family to the town of Cambria, Hillsdale Co., (MI)... I was married to Edmund Van Vlack August 29, 1842. We lived for a time with his folks in Reading Township. Our first child was born there in 1843, and we named him Alonzo Adelbert. I came very near dying. I was insane for six months. After I got better, we moved to an eighty-acre tract on Maple Road, in Reading Township. We lived there nearly a year. Then we bought forty-acres on the town line in Cambria. It was all woods. Edmund built a log house and we lived here about four years. Melissa C. was born here on November 9, 1845. Then we made a trade with John Stewart for one hundred acres in Woodbridge, Township. There was a log house and some land cleared. It was one mile east of the four town corners. We lived here thirty-three years, and four of our children were born here: Morton H., Adelia L., Franklin P., and Frederick D... We built our house in 1860, the year the Civil War began. We were all summer building it and nearly every thing was done by hand. It was commenced the 13th of January, and we moved into it in November, the same year... In 1877 we made a deal with Abner Cornell... for a house and lot in Cambria Village. We lived here about twenty years. We bought the eighty-acre farm of Elkanah Brower in Section 32, in Cambria Township. Morton lives on it at the present time (1902). " Children:
