Notes - Rebecca Jane Van Vlack, b. Aug. 17, 1825, at LaGrange, Dutchess Co., NY; d. Nov. 29, 1904, at Silver Creek. On Feb. 16, 1848, she m. Amos Bowen, who was b. Sept. 18, 1828 at Athol, Warren Co., NY and d. at Silver Creek, Jan. 18, 1908. Amos removed to Westfield in 1840. Amos was a master of Silver Lodge 757 F&A.M. He was a mechanic and foreman of a shop at Excelsior Bran Duster. Both Rebecca and Amos bd. Hanover Center Cem., Chautauqua Co., NY. Children (Bowen):

Rebecca gave the following account of the trip from Dutchess Co, NY to Silver Creek, NY to E. May Christy: "...came from Dutchess County, NY 1835 via the Erie Canal as far as Black Rock. Here we had to go ashore on the ice and walk to Buffalo. Buffalo had just been burned and we went to see the ruins. Came from Buffalo with horse and wagon. The trip took 17 days. Irving was a mud-hole then and Silver Creek called Fayette."
