July 27, 1838 in Fishkill, Dutchess Co., NY, aged 93 years, 11 mos., 8 days (g.s., RDC Cem., Hopewell); m. before 1774, Elizabeth (Elisabeth) Brinckerhoff, who was b. circa 1747, and d. Oct. 2, 1830 in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Co., NY, aged 83 yrs. Gravestone in RDC Hopewell Cem. states Elizabeth d. Oct. 2, 1831. [Poughkeepsie Journal 1785-1834 - obit in Poughkeepsie Journal Oct. 6, 1830 - Elisabeth died aged 83 yrs, wife of John H. formerly of Fishkill.] . In the Census of 1790, under Fishkill, Jan H.'s family consisted of 1 male over 16, 3 under 16, 5 females, and 1 slave. In the 1820 Census there is listed only 1 male and 1 female, both over 45, probably he and his wife. From 1774 to 1829 he and his wife appear in several real-estate transactions (Dutchess Co. Mtgs., Lib. 3, p. 302; Dutchess Co. Deeds, Lib 42, p. 427). In a mortgage dated May 1, 1771, he is described as a "Taylor of Rombout," and in another, dated April 12, 1790, he is designated as yeoman (Dutchess Co. Mtgs., Lib. 3, p. 94; Lib. 6, p. 26). He is listed as John H. Van Vlack - an enlisted man in The Militia - Dutchess County - Second Regiment (Roberts: New York in the Revolution as Colony and State, 2nd ed., Albany, NY, 1898, pg. 138).
