Jan Van Vlanckeran, blacksmith, was one of 20 who signed the first freighting partnership in Feb., 1742, in Dutchess Co. (T. Van Wyck Brinckerhoff: Hist. Sketch and Dir., Fishkill, 1866, p. 59-60). As a freeholder, he signed a road petition in Fishkill, Aug. 1, 1739 (ibid., p. 65). In 1787, Jan was living on land joining his brother Teunis (south side of Fishkill about 10 miles from the Hudson River).
