  Ulysses Gilbert Van Vleck, b. Oct. 3, 1842; m. according to family tradition, a southern girl after he was mustered out of the northern army and did not return north after the Civil War. He enlisted in the 32nd N.Y. Inf. and, according to the Hist. of Oswego County, was mustered out with his regt. He too spelled his name "Van Vleck" in his letters to his mother during the war. Whether or not there are Van Vleck descendants of this marriage is not known
