I wish to acknowledge my indebtedness and gratitude to the many interested kin, who must remain anonymous here because of their number, who contributed their valuable family charts, biographies and stories to update, correct and add to the Van Vlack genealogy for posterity.

I am indebted also to the researchers and authors of the past, and especially Jane Van Vleck, for their publications in the libraries I visited, and to the libraries’ staffs and to the court house staffs who gave me assistance.
